Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will make a working visit to Moscow from May 25 to 27 for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced Tuesday.
"May 25-27 will see a working visit to Moscow by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Hakan Fidan. Talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are scheduled," Zakharova said during a press briefing.
The foreign ministers will exchange views on regional issues with emphasis on the situation in Syria, Libya, the South Caucasus, and the Black Sea region, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
The discussions will also cover prospects for strengthening trade and economic cooperation under current conditions, Zakharova noted.
"The ministers will review the schedule of bilateral contacts at the highest and high levels," she added, suggesting that potential high-level meetings between the countries' leadership could be on the agenda.
This working visit comes amid continued efforts by both countries to maintain dialogue on pressing regional challenges despite differing positions on several international issues.
Türkiye and Russia have established mechanisms of cooperation on various regional matters, including the Syrian conflict, where both countries are key players with influence on different sides of the conflict.
The Black Sea region has gained increased importance in bilateral relations since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Türkiye playing a mediating role in previous grain export agreements.
Trade relations between the two countries have remained significant even as Türkiye, a NATO member, has maintained a balanced position regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
